Free Concert Highlights Inspiring Music from the Great State of Texas
DALLAS, Feb 10, 2019 — The Oak Lawn Band will present “Texas: Variations on the Lone Star State,” a free Texas-themed concert on March 2, coincidently scheduled on Texas Independence Day.
This family-friendly concert will be held at North Dallas High School and will feature music about the Lone Star State, including several pieces by composers from Texas. Among the local talented composers are North Texas natives David Lovrien and wind-band virtuoso Frank Ticheli. Many familiar tunes will be heard such as “The Eyes of Texas,” “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” and “Texas, Our Texas.”

About Oak Lawn Band
Since 1980, the Oak Lawn Band has served the DFW community performing both locally and nationally. As a founding member of the Lesbian and Gay Band Association (LGBA), the Oak Lawn Band has performed at the presidential inauguration ceremonies of Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, the Gay Games, the March on Washington, and other historic events. The group performs throughout the year as a marching and pep band for a number of parades including the Oak Cliff Mardi Gras Parade, and Pride Parades in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth.
