Press Release: Oak Lawn Band Appoints New Artistic Director

January 3, 2018

Group Promotes Marc Dunbar to New Position

DALLAS, January 2, 2018 — The Oak Lawn Band has announced its new artistic director after a six-month interim process. The group has appointed former assista

nt and interim director Marc Dunbar to lead the group on a permanent basis.

“Marc did such an outstanding job with programming, rehearsing, and leading us as an interim director for our December holiday concert that the board unanimously recommended him for artistic director and the band members agreed,” said Oak Lawn Band President John Horany. “We look forward to growing our musicianship and artistic vision with Marc at the helm.”

Dunbar holds a bachelor’s in Music from West Texas A&M University and currently is a music instructor for students from fifth through twelfth grades in Highland Park and Plano ISDs. He’s been a member of the Oak Lawn Band since 2013 and has worked as the Oak Lawn Band’s assistant director since last year. He also performs on saxophone for several other local groups including the Metropolitan Winds, Carrollton Wind Symphony, and the Singapore Slingers.

“This is such an honor and I fully intend to continue the 37-year mission of the Oak Lawn Band’s dedication to the community,” said Dunbar. “I’m so excited to develop our upcoming concerts to both delight and impress our audience and give our members a place to express their creativity.”
