Press Release: Oak Lawn Band to March Record Numbers at Dallas Pride

Group will include over 200 parade participants from across the U.S.

DALLAS, August 21, 2017 — The Oak Lawn Band will participate in this year’s Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade on September 17 with a record number of members. The group will march over 200 people including flag corps, twirlers, musicians, a guest drum major, and more.

Musicians will promote this year’s theme “Stand Up! Speak Out!” by playing Miami Sound Machine's “Get on Your Feet” and Meghan Trainor’s current hit “NO.” Participants include members of the Oak Lawn Band and other Lesbian and Gay Band Association members throughout the country, and students from the University of North Texas School of Music and the University of Texas at Arlington School of Music.

The band will once again be joined by 100 member Black Gold Winterguard, which recently won Fan Favorites at the 2017 WGI World Championships. Also included will be award-winning twirlers Bobe McBride, Emily McCrone and Rory Pearce. And leading the group for the third year will be drum major Patti Calandra of the Philadelphia Freedom Band.
